The Peninsula on Lake Granbury – Trash Service Update
05/14/2025
In February 2025, I personally initiated an inquiry into our current waste service agreement and the quality of service being provided to our community. Several homeowners had experienced significant increases in their monthly charges from our current provider, Waste Connections. Additionally, Waste Connections began leaving behind trash that was not placed inside their designated carts—items they had previously collected without issue.
Based on these complaints and general homeowner feedback, I set out to determine whether our current agreement continued to serve the best interests of the community.
Before reaching out to any alternative service providers, I contacted Waste Connections directly via email to explore our options. Their response was that our current rate of $40.88 per month for a single cart was the best rate available to our neighborhood.
With that information in hand, I contacted six other waste service companies to explore competitive options—specifically looking for improved service that included collection of trash outside of the cart, and ideally at a more affordable rate.
On April 25th, after completing this research and review, the Board notified homeowners that Parker Waste Service offered a proposal for better service at a more affordable rate than our current provider.
At our HOA meeting on May 6, 2025, we were made aware of a pricing discrepancy involving Waste Connections. It came to our attention that some residents have been paying significantly less than the previously quoted rate of $40.88 per month.
One of our residents shared detailed billing information showing that they had been charged a base rate of $24 per month by Waste Connections. They had been in direct contact with the company and were able to obtain specific pricing details, which she then presented to the Board.
Based on this new information, the Board of Directors has reopened discussions with Waste Connections to determine what their best pricing truly is for our community as a whole.
Please be assured: throughout this process, the Board’s only goal is to secure the best possible service and value for our homeowners while also trying to maintain the structure of a single-provider system. A single trash service provider helps limit pickups to one designated day per week, which:
- Reduces the number of trash containers along our roads,
- Minimizes weekly traffic from large trucks, and
- Significantly extends the life of our roads, which are one of our community’s most valuable and expensive assets.
We have scheduled a follow-up meeting with Waste Connections on May 19, 2025, and we will promptly provide an update to the community with the results of that meeting and clear guidance on the path forward.
We appreciate your patience, input, and understanding as we work to resolve this matter in the best interest of our neighborhood.
Sincerely,
Gary Olsen
President, TPOLG Board
